Empowering Teams to Protect Sensitive Information

In today’s digital age, data has become a crucial part of our daily lives, with technology at the heart of nearly every aspect of our activities.
Consequently, the Data Privacy Act has become an essential law, offering vital protection for our personal information and ensuring our privacy in an increasingly connected world.
On September 20, 2024, KELPHIL conducted an orientation on the Data Privacy Act of 2012, or Republic Act (RA) No. 10173, the first comprehensive data privacy law in the Philippines, and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR). The program was hosted by the company’s Data Protection Officer (DPO), Engr. Carmela Piando, and was attended by all employees of the organization.
The webinar expounds on the scope of the Data Privacy Act of 2012, including its implementation, provisions, and the responsibilities of individuals who handle data.
It emphasized the law’s aim to assure every data subject that their personal information is secured and protected, and that any procedures involving their data will be conducted only with their consent. Engr. Piando also outlined the duties of the National Privacy Commission or NPC as the enforcing authority and discussed the various types of violations with their corresponding penalties.
The orientation concluded successfully, achieving its goal of raising awareness about data security and fostering a culture of responsibility among employees.
This marks a significant step for KELPHIL in reinforcing its commitment to creating a secure and trustworthy environment for both employees and the management.
