KELPHIL’s First-Ever E-Sports Activity

In this tech-centric era, many companies are incorporating e-sports in the workplace as a strategy to strengthen professional development.
Though this notion is not new to some, Kelphil is beginning to embrace the emerging trend of cultivating a competitive yet fun office culture.
The first-ever Kelphil E-Sports Tournament, held last October, was a success generating immense excitement. The event was spearheaded by Mr. Mark Patcholo Poyaoan and Mr. Alvin James Arboleda. Interestingly, the idea for the activity originated during a mundane Monday meeting, where the positive and negative aspects of gaming were discussed. Contrary to the popular belief that gaming leads to addiction, it is actually known to build valuable soft skills such as communication, creativity, and decision-making. In an office setting, gaming can fuel fun office dynamics by balancing productivity, competition, and boosting morale. The tournament featured three games: Tekken 7, Mobile Legends, and Mario Kart. Tekken 7 was divided into 3 elimination rounds, followed by one final round. The Mario Kart category consisted of one elimination race (with four groups) and one grand prix (for the winners of each group). The Mobile Legends tournament followed a 5v5 format, with a best-of three series.
“The challenge of trying every game and making my way to the top was enjoyable to me,” said Mr. Nilo Molina Jr., the winner of Tekken 7 and a participant in all the games. Mr. Marco Samaniego, a player in Mobile Legends, also mentioned, “In the end, what really matters is the enjoyment and camaraderie that the E-sports bring.” As for Mr. Mark Patcholo Poyaoan, the most challenging part was scheduling and finding time. Nevertheless, it was rewarding to see the participants enjoy themselves even after a tiring day. The fact that they did not lose interest in playing, watching, and enjoying the games made Mr. Patcholo feel fulfilled. Meanwhile, Ms. Debra Mae Jeves, the winner of the Mario Kart category, stated that the most fun experience was before the tournament itself. The players were allowed to practice after office hours or during breaktime. With all this being said, the employees surely had a blast throughout the entire activity.
In light of its success, one can confidently assert that the event was one for the books.

The winner of Tekken 7 was Nilo Molina Jr.

For the Mario Kart event, the winner was Debra Mae Jeves.

Overall MVP (MPL) – Patrick Vasallo

Lastly, the winning team for Mobile Legends consisted of Kimzelle Thereze Jimenes, Patrick Vasallo, Alexander Brey Pisigan, Ivanne Manalo, and Japhet Binarao.
